Maidens Tower, its Turkish name means 'Kiz Kulesi', in reference to a legendary Byzantine princess who was told that she would die of snakebite & was locked up on the island for her own protection, only for a snake to arrive in a basket of figs. In its time, the tower has served as a quarantine centre & a customs office...

  Mardin
Overlooking the Mesopotamian Plain, has preserved the old- style carving in its houses. The Sultan Isa Medresse is an interesting, beautiful Turkish monument with its magnificent carved portal. On a hil east of Mardin, you will see the Deynulzaferan, a Syriac- Jacobite monastery. Syrian Orthodox gold & silver smiths whose work is famous throughout the country still practice their craft here.

  Van
In Eastern Anatolian region of Turkey, is situated in a lush green sanctuary by lake Van & is surrounded by rocky mountains. Lake Van is the largest lake in Turkey & it was formed when the Volcano Nemrut exploded. South to Van lies a fertile oasis enclosed by the Tigris & the Euphrates & it is said that this place is the Biblical Mesopotamia & the real Garden of Eden.

  Akdamar
Breathtaking in the beauty of its surroundings, the ruined church of Akdamar Island on lake Van represents one of the most sublime examples of religious architecture. The church is the sole remaining building of the palace of Aght’amar built between 915 & 921 AD. The complex of buildings originally included streets, gardens & terraced parks surrounding the palace & church.

  Dogubeyazit
5165 m, Mount Agri (Ararat) is the main peak of Turkey & the symbol of the city. This snowcapped dormant volcano is the famous biblical Mount Ararat, the legendary site of the second beginning of the world. It is believed that Noah's Ark rested on its summit during the big flood. 95 kms east of Agri, is the town Dogubeyazit & a spectacular Ishak Pasha Palace, is the most important sight.

Ani
42 kms east of the city on the ancient Silk Road, the medieval city of Ani lies mostly in ruins. Impressive fortified walls still encircle the ruins of numerous churches, mosques & caravanserais. Although the ancient settlement of Ani began as an Armenian settlement, it has later endured waves of successive conquerors; Muslims, Byzantines & Mongols, among them.

  Artvin
Like all cities extending along the beautiful Black Sea coast, Artvin is a lovely district, 64 kms southeast of Hopa, possessing picturesque views of nature. Typical of this region, wide forests cover the area & this landscape of mountains, lakes, plateaus & rivers, together with the traditional settings of pretty wooden houses, offers a pleasant atmosphere to visitors.
